The National Council of State has approved N27,000 as the minimum wage for the country. The council approved the amount at its meeting in Abuja Today.
Following the Council’s endorsement, a lowest pay permitted by law bill is required to be sent to the National Assembly on Wednesday.
As indicated by the Minister of Labor and Employment, Dr Chris Ngige, the Federal Government is topping the endorsed sum by N3,000 to 30,000 for its specialists. He said the states are at freedom to expand the new assention as they see fit.
The sum affirmed by the Council of State is N3,000 shy of the N30,000 that the Tripartite Committee on Review of National Minimum Wage prescribed.
The board of trustees, led by a previous Head of Service of the Federation, Ms Ama Pepple, had presented the report, which contained the prescribed figure, to President Muhammadu Buhari on November 6, 2018, after numerous long periods of thoughts, Channels said.
